Need help with Black Box? Send us a note and we'll get back to you. Below are some simple troubleshooting tips for common questions.
We answer support questions at support@blackboxsecurity.online.
Local VPN permission
Black Box uses Android's local VPN system to apply your protection rules on the device. The first time you turn on Lockdown Mode, Black Box shows a Local VPN protection explanation, and then Android shows its own VPN-permission prompt.
- If you tapped Not now, you can try again later from the Lockdown screen.
- If Android shows a "VPN error" or won't reconnect, turn Lockdown Mode off and back on.
- If a permission has been revoked in Android settings, the Lockdown screen offers a button to re-enable it.
Notifications
Black Box shows an ongoing notification while Lockdown Mode is on, plus optional alerts. The daily Protection summary is off by default; turn it on in Settings → Protection summary notifications.
- If notifications don't appear at all, check that notifications are allowed for Black Box in your Android system settings.
- If the ongoing notification disappears, Lockdown Mode may have been turned off — open the app to confirm and toggle it back on if needed.
Lockdown Mode
Lockdown Mode helps block selected apps from reaching the network. You can turn it on or off from the Dashboard or the Lockdown screen at any time.
- If an app you expect to work stops loading, Lockdown may be active for it. Open the Lockdown screen and check.
- If the internet feels slow or broken, try turning Lockdown Mode off first to confirm whether it's related.
- Lockdown does not turn off Wi-Fi, mobile data, or Bluetooth. Those are controlled from Android Settings.
Protection Activity
Protection Activity shows what was blocked during the last 24 hours, grouped by app. The top card and the per-app list use the same 24-hour data.
- If the counts look low, Lockdown Mode may have been off for part of the day.
- An "Advanced blocked technical log" toggle reveals the most recent raw events for power users.
Google Play testing
If you are testing a Google Play build of Black Box (Internal or Closed testing), you may have arrived through a Play tester link. The current Google Play test build does not require a login or payment, and Premium features are included for free during the test.
- If you no longer want to test, you can leave the testing program from the Play Store listing or by following the opt-out link in your invitation email.
- To remove the app and its local data, uninstall from your Android Settings.
